The ABS QE is the first of two exams required for board certification in general surgery.
ABS General Surgery Qualifying Exam (QE)
The American Board of Surgery (ABS) certifies physicians in general surgery and surgical sub-specialties. The ABS General Surgery Qualifying Exam (QE) is offered annually to surgeons after completing their residency training, and must be passed in order to obtain initial certification to practice surgery. It is the first of two exams required for board certification in general surgery.
The QE tests a surgeon's knowledge of general surgical principles and their clinical application, and consists of approximately 300 multiple-choice questions. It is a one-day, 8-hour computer-based exam that is administered in four 115-minute sessions, with optional 10-minute breaks after session one and three, and a longer 40-minute break between the second and third session. Once a session has concluded, the questions in that session cannot be revisited.
The QE assesses an examinee's knowledge in various categories, including Abdomen, Alimentary Tract, Endoscopy, Breast, Endocrine, Skin and Soft Tissue, Surgical Critical Care, Pediatric Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Trauma, Vascular Surgery, Transplantation, Head and Neck, Surgical Specialties, Applied Science, Preoperative Evaluation and Perioperative Care, Geriatric Surgery, Minimally Invasive Surgery Principles, Radiology, Ethics, and more.

USMLE Step 3 Student
"I used Medlearnity to prep for USMLE Step 3, and I can't say enough great things about them. The tutoring really helped me through the daunting task of preparing for the exam, and preparing for future standardized testing as well. I was assigned a tutor for the ACM-type questions and biostats, as well as a second tutor for CCS. I also received significant, and much needed coaching from Dr. Gohel, so I actually had a team of 3 doctors helping me prep. An amazing team, sure to get even the busiest scapel back to razor sharpness!"
